RESEARCH

The physicians at North Coast Women's Care are committed to providing you with the most up to date medical care available. We are also committed to advancing medical technology through clinical research. That's why North Coast Women's Care Research Division has been committed to the research and development of new therapies geared towards improving medical care for people in our community since 2001.

What is a "Clinical Trial"?
Clinical trials are research studies in which new treatments, drugs, diagnostic tests, procedures and other therapies are tested in people to see if they are safe and effective.

What is a "Protocol"?
A protocol is a set of rules that defines the clinical trial i.e.who may participate; the schedule of tests, procedures, medications, and dosages; the length of the study.

What is "Informed Consent"?
Informed Consent is the process of learning the key facts about a clinical trial before you decide whether or not to participate. This is done by discussing the research study with your doctor as well as being given information written in lay terminology that can be understood by a non-medical person. Lastly, you will be provided the opportunity to have all your questions answered at all times of the study. The government has strict guidelines and safeguards to protect people who choose to participate in clinical trials.

What are the benefits of participating in a clinical trial?
By participating in a clinical trial you can:
-Take an active role in your own health care
-Gain access to new treatments that are not yet available to the public
-Help yourself and others by contributing to medical research

Current Studies:
At NCWC Research we have one or more studies in progress at this time in various aspects of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Current ongoing studies include:
-Menopausal symptoms
-Infertility

Choosing to participate in a clinical trial is an important personal decision. It is completely voluntary, and it is important for you to know that you may withdraw your consent to participate at any time. If you are interested in participating in a research study, we encourage and invite you to discuss this further with our research staff or your physician.
